Heidi Dixner

Heidi Dixner has appreciated dogs and their unique relationship to humans since childhood. Her work specifically with poodles spans more than 30 years and she actively participates in breed rescue. Heidi says, "I've learned a lot about social dogs and how they interact with each other and humans by watching hundreds of dogs at my daycares for more than 10 years. I prefer the term 'dog daycare' to 'doggie' as a show of respect for the dogs and to put an emphasis on how our work helps both canines and humans." She has been training professionally since 2001 and joined the Association of Professional Dog Trainers in 2003. Heidi is currently the Tennesse State Greeter for the organization.

Heidi's training philosophy has evolved over the years. She believes in the importance of respect for dogs and focuses on enhancing communication to improve bonding between humans and their canine companions. An introduction to positive reinforcement training several years ago drastically changed Heidi's understanding of dogs and their ability and willingness to work with a human partner.

Through group and individual sessions, Heidi teaches individuals how to motivate their canine partner. She believes, through experience, that anything a dog can do physically can be brought on cue quickly and successfully by reinforcing what's wanted rather than by punishing what's not. It's exciting work and fun for both human and canine!

Parenting a 5 year old, Heidi appreciates how growing up with a child continuously expands her understanding of learning. She owns Red Rover Pet Services, conveniently located Downtown Nashville, with her husband Robert Regan. Heidi makes her home with two humans, four dogs, two cats, two horses, chickens and an assortment of wildlife on a small farm outside of Nashville Tennessee.
